Course Description

Saunters is a youth hiking program made possible with support from the Ice Age Trail Alliance. This course is focused on combating childhood obesity, preventing summer learning loss, and mitigating nature deficit disorder.  Students will hike five unique Ice Age Trail segments in and around the area.

Math, Social Studies and Science standards are addressed through study of flora, fauna, geology and other natural elements. The majority of the learning is experiential as students hike through unique biomes of Wisconsin.  All suggested activities are connected to the National Common Core Standards or the Wisconsin Academic Standards for 4th through 8th grade students.

A final schedule will be determined closer to the date of the program.  Hike locations will be based off of current conditions.

This course is offered from July 8-12 .
Students, staff and volunteers will load the bus each day from Parker High School and travel up to two hours away to a segment of the Ice Age Trail.

Students will receive a T-shirt to wear on the last day of hiking.  After registration, please email nboys@janesville.k12.wi.us the students name and T-shirt size
